Rijeka is ready for the EUG 2016

Rijeka, April 13^th 2015 –Along with the city of Zagreb, the city of Rijeka will host the European Universities Games in June 2016 gathering over 5,000 student athletes from all over Europe. The organizers held a ceremony of the cooperation agreement regarding the preparation, implementation and organization of the Games. The agreement holders are the City of Rijeka and the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016.

Mayor Vojko Obersnel signed the official agreement on behalf of the City of Rijeka, while the president of European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016, Zrinko Custonja, signed on behalf of the EUG 2016.The signing ceremony has built the foundations of a successful preparation and implementation of the European Universities Games 2016.

Looking at the number of competitors and its significance,European Universities Games Zagreb- Rijeka 2016 will be the most important sport event in the recent history of Croatia. Besides the sport competition, the organizers and the host cities want to leave a rich heritage for all students and Croatian citizens.

This signing was yet another way to demonstrate the commitment and competency of the City of Rijeka in hosting the Games. The organizers also announced a number of activities that will be held in the next year in Rijeka and thus be a part of “WARM-up” for the Games.
