The construction of the Kantrida Swimming Pool Complex has gave a great boost to the culture of swimming and para swimming in Rijeka. The number of swimmers in the past two years has doubled, while the new complex offers an exceptionally large number of recreational programmes for all age groups. Due to professional staff and conditions, Rijeka has been one of the best quality swimming centres in Croatia. The organisation of the European Championships in swimming promoted swimming even more as a part of Rijeka identity.
Total of seventy (70) Universities applied.

- one (1) mixed tournament, Freestyle Relay 4×50 m.

- 50 m and para 50 m S1-S13
- 100 m and para 100 m S1-S13,
- 200 m and para 200 m S1-S5,
- 400 m and para 400 m S6-S13,
- one (1) men’s and one (1) women’s tournament, Backstroke:
- 50 m and para 50 m S1-S13,
- 100 m and para 100 m S6-S13,
- one (1) men’s and one (1) women’s tournament, Breaststroke:
- 50 m and para 50 m SB1-SB13,
- 100 m and para 100 m SB4-BS13,
- one (1) men’s and one (1) women’s tournament, Butterfly:
- 50 m and para 50 m S2-S13,
- 100 m and para 100 m S8-S13,
- one (1) men’s and one (1) women’s tournament, Medley:
- 200 m
Athletes who are not internationally classified are obligated to arrive on July 20, 2016. The competition consists of three (3) days. The General Technical Meeting, where the presence of each Head of the Delegation is obligatory, will be held one day prior to the start of the competition in the afternoon hours.
The competition will be held in the Olympic-size (50 m) swimming pool.
