News - Zagreb as a big sports ground

Zagreb, April 23th 2015 – The Student Sports Day will take place this Saturday, April 25th at various locations in the centre of Zagreb. Under the motto “Leave a book for a second, let’s move”, this traditional event will offer students and citizens the opportunity to take part in nine recreational sports and four competition sports at ten different locations in the city.

The teams will show their strength in futsal and basketball tournament and in volleyball on grass, while in the singles category students and citizens can register for city cross (1.2 km city race with start on Ban Josip Jelacic Square).

Through the recreational part of the program, students and citizens will be able to try their hands at sports such as table tennis, chess, handball, mini golf, rock climbing, street workout and many others.

“We want to emphasize the importance of practicing sport for all ages, but also to promote student sports and show its effect on quality of studying and living. The European Universities Games will represent the ultimate long-time development of student sport and activism.” – said Zrinko Custonja, the president of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation.

Student Sports Day is organized every year in several cities, under the organization of Croatian Academic Sports Federation (CASF). In order to consolidate all activities related to student sport, a system of student competitions called UNISPORT brings together student athletes to competitions all over the Croatia in 21 sports, throughout the whole year. Student Sports Day is a great platform for the promotion of initiatives above.
