WTF Taekwondo Academy Opened in Rijeka

The City of Rijeka received a great recognition exactly 16 days before the start of the European Universities Games – the President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Dr. Chungwon Choue and the Rector of the University of Rijeka prof. Pero Lučin, PhD, signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions in Rijeka on Monday, June 27.

Together, they opened the Regional Center of the World Taekwondo Federation, the first of its kind in Europe, which will be located in the newly built buildings at Rijeka Campus.

Taekwondo competitions will be held at Mladost Sports Hall in Rijeka throughout the duration of the Games. Two hundred and twenty two athletes, twenty seven of whom are Croatian, will compete for medals. This is exactly how the EUG will help promote the Taekwondo Academy, helping it achieve its goal of becoming a center of sports excellence, in addition to promoting taekwondo.

People in Croatia first started training in taekwondo right here in Rijeka, back in 1961.
