Warming Up for EUG: Students’ Sports Days in Zagreb and Rijeka

The European Universities Games and its partners participated in the two-day Students’ Sport Days held in Zagreb on May the 26th and the 27th and in Rijeka on May the 27th and the 28th.

In Zagreb, the traditional Students’ Sports Days brought together hundreds of students who competed in numerous sports disciplines, and the UniSport HR Universities championships in 3×3 basketball and badminton made this year’s event even more appealing. The numerous sports and entertainment programs have served as a prelude to the largest multi-sport event in recent Croatian history – the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016.

In Rijeka, the traditional exhibition match between the City of Rijeka and the University of Rijeka was held on Saturday. It was opened by Hrki and ended in victory for the City of Rijeka. In addition to basketball and football tournaments, a dodgeball tournament was also held, as well as the presentation of spikeball, slackline walking, defensive arts, and biking and walking trips to the source of the Rječina River. With good music, entertaining hosts, and, of course, some 20-odd volunteers, this was yet another in a series of successful student sports events in Rijeka.

In both cities, the visitors, who were happy to take a selfie with the cute hamster Hrki, the mascot of the Games, were rewarded by the partner and the friend of the Games’ volunteers Zagrebačka banka.
