News - A memory carved in stone to last forever

As part of the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016, stone slabs with the names of all universities represented at the Games in Rijeka were put up in the park between university departments and the Faculty of Teacher Education at the Campus.

The Memory Garden is a joint project of the University of Rijeka, the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The park will remain as a lasting memory of the greatest sports event in the history of the City of Rijeka.

The main idea of the Memory Garden was to carve into the stone slabs the names of all countries and universities which participated at the European Universities Games. The stone slabs were the idea of Aljoša Brajdić from the Academy of Applied Arts.

To commemorate the occasion, the volunteers and the organizers took a photo together. The Garden was opened by the head of the City Department of Sports and Technical Culture of the City of Rijeka Igor Načinović. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for their contribution, stating the Games wouldn’t be the same without them. During the next week, the representatives of the universities who are yet to come will put up the stone slabs. At the end of the Games, the stone slabs will be placed next to the trees on the Alley of Youth at the Campus.
