News - Light Up Tomorrow! – 28th Summer Universiade

universiade gwangju 2015_0From July 3rd to 14th, South Korea and the city of Gwangju will host the 28th Summer Universiade. It will gather about 14 000 student athletes from 170 countries all over the world in chance to compete in 21 sports. There will be 24 athletes representing Croatia in gymnastic, athletics, taekwondo, judo and rowing. Croatian athletes will have the opportunity to compete against world-class athletes at one of the biggest sports events in the world.

This year’s Universiade will be the most massive one in the history.  A record from Kazan of 11 759 participants was already knocked down in June. Their mascot Nuribi will represent an angel of light that spreads the hope of creation under the slogan “Light up tomorrow “. Gwangju Universiade is a great preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year, as proven by many well-known names that will show their best in Gwangju.

There is no lack of prominent competitors among Croatian delegacy since Olympic medallist Lucia Zaninovic and her sister Ana Zaninovic will represent Croatia in taekwondo.gwangju-hrvatska

The Summer Universiade is an international sports event held every two years under the supervision of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Spreading friendship and positive energy on the sports fields and beyond, more than 10 000 students will be the best promoters of FISU’s slogan “Excellence in Mind and Body”.

 

The European Universities Games in Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 will present their program at the Universiade in Gwangju. Our athletes will show the official logo and slogan so that the message “Heart believes – achieves mind” can be heard all over the world.
