News - Last matches of the men’s groups on 3rd day of EUFC

Students played the last matches of the men’s groups yesterday. The two best teams of every group will compete in quarterfinals on Sunday, after a day of rest.

The University Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek and the University of Jyväskylä are the teams from group A that qualified in the quarter-finals. Finns have managed to qualify for the next round defeating Osijek team with a score 0:2. Since they have already ensured the second round, the team from Osijek took the opportunity to try new tactics and players. Gdansk University of Technology and the University of Stirling played a draw (1:1) thus taking the last two places in the group.

The University of Franche-Comte lost their match against the University of Minho with the result 0:1. Despite the defeat, the French managed to qualify for quarter-finals along with the Portuguese. On the other side, Ural Federal University won the University of Oslo (1:4) with two serious injuries. Despite the effort, their victory only ensured them a third place in group B.

The last match in group C demonstrated the superiority of Turkey. The Pamukkale University won the team of the University of Almeria with a score 0:1. They pushed the Spanish team to last place in the group and along with the University Constantin Branc qualified for the quarter-finals.

Russians have confirmed strong power in the final game of group D. Although the Kuban State University won the University Bochum (3:0), the Germans managed to secure their place in the quarter-finals winning the second place in the group. The last place in the group went to the University of Abo Akademi.

Female players competed in three new games. The winners of the day were surely players from the University of Wurzburg. Germans won with the score 5:0 over the University Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek and thus left girls from Osijek with two consecutive defeats. Song og Fjordane University achieved an important victory over the Ural Federal University (1:2) with a dynamic game. Portuguese players from the University of Porto easily defeated University of Wurzburg with the score 4:1.
