News - Athletes and volunteers from Zagreb visit Rijeka

Three shuttle busss of the European Universities Games traveled from Zagreb to Rijeka so the athletes could use their free day well and take a swim in the other host city of the Games. 150 athletes and volunteers traveled from Zagreb to Rijeka and arrived at Rijeka Campus. Jan Sredenšek, a futsal player from the University of Maribor said they had come to the beach to recuperate and hang out on their free day.

‘There are some Slovenian people here, the University of Primorska as well, we’ll say hi to them, walk around the Campus and the city, and use the opportunity to take a swim. We’ll also explore the city a bit. I like everything here a lot, the organization is at a very high level, and we’re all very satisfied,’ said Jan.
Marius, the captain of the fustal team of the University of Educational Sciences in Lithuania came to sightsee, and Antoine Brunet, fustal player from the University of Paris 1 Pantheon, said that almost his entire team had come to Rijeka. They decided to relax on the beach and do a bit of sightseeing.

‘This bus line between Zagreb and Rijeka travels once a day, and we can use it for free, which is great; we just need to announce ourselves. Everything is organized for us and we don’t have to worry about anything – even public transportation is free for us. The organization here is at a very high level, and the competitions and the quality of the teams as well, this is a lovely experience. We like everything and we’re very pleased,’ said Antoine.

This is not the first volunteering experience for Anastasija from Russia, a volleyball and basketball volunteer. She has volunteered on various other projects as well. She will browse around Rijeka, and but she’ll spend most of her time swimming.

‘Croatia is a very beautiful and interesting country, I’m happy to be at the Games, I love my job here. After the Games finish, I’ll stay in Croatia for vacation. I came alone from Russia, and I’ll be leaving with many new friends,’ Anastasija concluded.
