News - Croatian flag flown up on Gwangju 2015 Universiade

Beautiful welcome ceremony for teams and delegations from all around the world was organized in Gwangju, Korea at the 28th Summer Universiade. Croatian delegation was represented by Davor Habljak – Secretary General of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation.

Welcome ceremony represents symbolic act of the union of athletes and students around the world, and also marks the prelude to official Opening ceremony of the 28th Summer Universiade, which will be organized tomorrow at the main stadium in Gwangju. At this year’s Universiade, our country will be represent in a total of twenty-three athletes in five sports: taekwondo, gymnastics, rowing, judo and athletics. The expectations and hopes of success are extremely high.

“We believe in successes of our athletes and we know they’ll do their best to present our country in the best way in sports arenas and out of them” – said the head of the Croatian mission at the Universiade and sports director of Croatian Academic Sports Federation, Ronald Štrumberger .

Universiade will bring together competition in 21 sports for 14,000 participants from 170 countries. Universiade in Gwangju is the largest so far and organizational level and efforts of all involved in it give the impression that all athletes have the opportunity to show the best of themselves in this really unique country.
