EUG 2016 medals – a vision minted for the winners

The best of the best among the thousands of competitors who will compete in the European Universities Games in Zagreb and Rijeka will be rewarded with a EUG 2016 medal.

The medal is a symbol of all the dedication and hard work that the competitor invested to get to the podium. It is therefore important that the design of the medal reflects the appreciation of that effort.

The main element of each medal and trophy is the logo of the European Universities Games, the visual representation of the Games’ slogan „Heart believes – Mind achieves“. The symbol of the European Universities Games represents the synergy between the heart and the mind and that concept promotes all the main values of university sport: mind, education, circumspection, strength, energy, determination and love.

Jurica Dolić, PhD, the creative mind behind the design of the medals and trophies, is also the author of the European Universities Games logo, and the complete visual and verbal identity of the Games. His vision was minted into medals and trophies by IKOM – kovnica d.o.o. from Zagreb, a company developing and nurturing the tradition of minting since 1946.

The design underwent several iterations until the final form has been reached, which had the appropriate aesthetical qualities and was suitable for mass production.
