Declaration on cooperation between EUG and Rijeka Capital of Culture 2020

The City of Rijeka, one of the hosts of the European Universities Games 2016, was also designated to bear the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2020. Rijeka is the first Croatian city to hold this prestigious title, and it will represent both the culture of Rijeka and of the entire country.

In order to extend support to Rijeka as the European Capital of Culture, to strengthen the reputation of Croatian academic sport, and to help promote sport, recreation and healthy lifestyle, a declaration on cooperation was signed between the European Universities Games and the EPK.

The Declaration was signed by Haris Pavletić, the vice president of the EUG 2016, and Irena Kregar Šegota, the director of the company Rijeka 2020 d.o.o. The cooperation’s main goals are the joint promotion of the Games, presenting Rijeka as the European Capital of Culture, and raising public awareness on the importance of these two events.
