News - Women’s volleyball: Romanian and Swiss universities in the finals

The semi-final matches of the women’s volleyball competition were played today in the afternoon at the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016.

The Swiss and German volleyball teams played in the first semifinal match, starting at 17:30. The first team that would play in tomorrow’s finals was revealed at Bojan Stranić Sports Hall after the fourth set. The University of Lausanne showed more will and power, and after the fourth set deservedly celebrated against the German Sport University Cologne (22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-17).

The girls from the Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau and the University of Belgrade played in the second semifinal match. Much like the first semifinal, the match was tense, and the winner was determined in the fifth set. Although the Romanian girls lost the first two sets, they celebrated in the end. The Serbian teams were very relaxed and the Romanians took the advantage of it. They won the third and the fourth set, and then the fifth set, in which the Serbian girls scored only four points (15-4). The final score was 3-2.

The final of the women’s volleyball tournament between the University of Lausanne and the University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau will be played tomorrow.
