European Universities Games are the largest multi-sport competition in Europe, and a media platform that will mark a milestone for further development of Croatian university sports.

News - Women’s handball: Lithuanians spoiled a perfect day for the players from the Balkans
The start of the women’s competition in handball was marked by the wins of the teams from this part of the world as Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian handball players gained their first wins. However, the girls from Lithuania prevented the second Slovenian team to continue their winning streak.
GROUP A
Nice weather and a pleasant seaside atmosphere proved were more convenient for the team from Portorož, which has not traveled a long way to arrive, unlike their opponents from Oslo. This may have been a deciding factor for their 24-20 victory with.
Lea Krajnc was in an especially good mood, scoring nine goals, while China Hauge scored 6 goals for her team.
GROUP B
The tensest match of the first day of the women’s competition was the one played at Marino Cvetković Sports Hall, where the University of Niš and the University of Pitesti fought for points until the very end. The victory, however, went to Serbia and Niš, who won 28-26.
The best players of the match, Katarina Radović from Niš and Abel Dana from Romania, both scored 9 goals.
GROUP C
A perfect day for the girls from the Balkans was spoiled by the Lithuanian team, which defeated the University of Ljubljana with 35-31. It was clear at half-time that there would be plenty of goals, and the match eventually finished 35-31 in favor of the girls from the Baltic.
Inesa Verbovik scored staggering 12 goals for Lithuania, and Veronika Leški and Catherine Regner scored eight and seven goals respectively for the opposing team.
GROUP D
In addition to a double victory of their male counterparts in the men’s part of the competition, the girls from Zagreb have also grasped a win at the start of the competition; this meant that Zagreb had three wins from three games at the end of the first day. The team from the Croatian capital was great in the second half, winning against Porto 29-18.
Ivana Kirin scored 6 goals for Zagreb, and Patricia Resende, who scored 5 goals, was the best player of Porto.

Zagreb-Rijeka, Croatia: July 12 – 25, 2016
The 3rd edition of the European Universities Games will be held in the Croatian cities Zagreb and Rijeka in July 2016. Sport featured are Badminton, Basketball, Basketball 3×3, Beach Volleyball, Bridge, Chess, Football, Futsal, Golf, Handball, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Rugby 7’s, Sport Climbing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo. Two of the sports – Table Tennis and Swimming – will also include competitions for students with disabilities. Apart of the sports competitions, the Games will be accompanied by the Rector’s Conference, educational side-events, cultural program and other activities.
