Through a joint initiative of EUG 2016, SRCE and the city of Zagreb, Zagreb has become an – eduroam™ city

Zagreb, February 3rd 2015 – Through a joint initiative of the European Universities Games, The University Computing Centre (Srce) and the city of Zagreb, Zagreb has become an eduroam city. Doing so, Zagreb now stands alongside few European cities that offer the eduroam™ service through a wireless network.
Using the eduroam™ service, Zagreb offers wireless Internet access to its citizens but also to its guests who belong to the academic and research community (students, teachers, professors and scientists). This service is available at 25 locations in the city centre such as Ban Josip Jelacic Square, Main railway station, Dolac market, Hrvatskih velikana Square,and The Republic of France Square.

Dr. sc. Zoran Bekic, the director of Srce, gave a statement during a press conference saying that „eduroam™ service is a global roaming service conceived under the wing of the European association of academia and research networks and accomplished through the international GÉANT project (http://www.eduroam.org/). Thanks to Srce, Croatia has been active in developing and providing the eduroam service from the very beginning, which in return made Srce recognized and accepted in international terms as a national operator and eduroam service coordinator“. He also added that „In Europe the service is available on over 10.000 locations in 44 countries. The eduroam service is currently available on 220 locations in 46 cities and towns of Croatia“.
