News - Team competitions in table tennis: Russian State University wins gold in men’s and women’s tournament

The final of the team competitions in table tennis was played by the best students from Russia and Poland, with the Russian State University winning gold medals in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

In the women’s part of the competition, the players from the Russian State University beat their colleagues with 3:0. It was a difficult match for the girls because they are good friends and have been training together for a long time. They are happy with their gold medal.

‘It was a difficult tournament. We have been competing for a long time, but we can’t remember the last time the competition was this tough. We had more luck in the final than out opponents.’

Polish players from Kozminski University defended their bronze medal from Rotterdam, and they share it with the players from the University of Zagreb, who are looking forward to the rest of the competition.

‘Our goal was to win a medal, and we are happy to have won it. We have the singles tournament ahead of us, and we will be happy to play against any one of the girls who have won a medal.’

In the men’s tournament the players from the Russian State University are once again champions of the European Universities Games. They beat the players from TASSHVE Walbrzych University, who can’t stop admiring their silver medal, with a result of 3:0.

‘For the women’s team from Poland the bronze medal isn’t a surprise, they won it in Rotterdam as well. It is a real miracle that we have even made it to the final, and it was an honor to play against the players who justified their champion’s title from Rotterdam.’

Polish players from Kozminski University and the Czech players from the Technical University of Ostrava share third place.

Ivana Čuković – Blagić, Prorector of the University of Zagreb, Aitor Canibe Sanchez, member of the EUSA Executive Committee, and Andrzej Hrehorwicz, EUSA Technical Delegate for table tennis, handed them their medals.
