News - Rijeka beats Munich

At the end of the first day, the University of Rijeka beat the University of Munich 74-51 in the qualifying group D. The match was held at Trnsko Sports Hall. Rijeka had a lead over Munich for the entirety of the match, and although the students from Munich gave their all and followed closely, they never managed to take the lead. In the end, Rijeka won the match fair and square.

Domagoj Vuković, player from the University of Rijeka, said that his team performed worse than usual because some of the members were lower-league players. “We expect more from our teammates in the future, but this victory was a good start.”

German player Anton Sperber said: “Players from Rijeka were formidable opponents. I’d say they are the best team in our group, and this obviously wasn’t our time to shine. We hope to win the upcoming matches, though.”

Tomorrow, Munich is facing off against the Fatih University from Turkey in the Dražen Petrović Basketball Hall, while the University of Rijeka will be facing off against the University of Vienna at Trnsko Sports Hall.
