News - Passing by: Cafe Roko and the athletes’ village restaurant become popular gathering places

It’s usually around noon when the exhausted university teams come back from their training and games, and both the cafe Roko and the restaurant in the athletes’ village become pretty crowded. The line at the restaurant is the longest at that time of the day, and it’s the best time and place to hear some new stories. This is where we have met the men’s football team of the University of Zagreb. We asked them what it was like to be the hosts.

Our cooperation with foreign teams is great, both on and off the pitch. These Games brought closer all Croatian teams and enabled us to hang out with each other and to meet similar-minded people from other university cities.

The football players of the University of Klagenfurt shared their experiences while posing to be photographed.

We like how the meals at the restaurants are big enough to ‘recharge our batteries’ before the competitions start. While we’re on breaks, two-or three times a day, we go to Roko for a cup of coffee, as we need to rest.

The Norwegian students from Sogn og Fjordane University College didn’t like the long restaurant line, so they decided to purchase groceries at local stores.

We decied to get some snacks and water, we have a refrigerator in the room, so the food is always close at hand – they said, laughing.

Unfortunately, for some the Games are already over and they’re getting ready to return to their countries. We met the Turkish karate team from Istanbul Aydin University.

We are pleased with the competitions and sorry we have to leave so soon. In the past few days we managed to take the time to visit the city center and we were delighted to explore a culture different than our own. The people of Zagreb are very friendly. We will definately have great memories of these Games.

Every day the athletes’ village creates new stories of sports and friendship, and we are certain that the participants of the Games will cherish them for a long time.
