News - Heads of delegation visit to EUG2016 in Zagreb

On the second day of National University Sports Association (NUSA) coordination – Heads of Delegation meeting in Croatia to European Universities Games 2016, delegates were welcomed in Zagreb on the Faculty of Kinesiology by president of the Games, Zrinko Čustonja.

After the welcome speech, Mr Besim Aliti, Lead Project Manager and Ms Jelena Matešić, Head of International Relations Department presented some useful information about the upcoming Games in regards to finances, accreditation, security, transportation, catering and accommodation, sport venues, social life as well as marketing and media.

The presentations were followed by intense sightseeing programme of the Athletes’ Village and sport venues. The delegation representatives began the tour at the Faculty of Kinesiology, where the EUG 2016 Headquarters will be located during the Games.

A few meters away, the delegates could then visit the ‘Stjepan Radić’ student campus, where the participants will be accommodated, as well as premises will be provided for offices, medical rooms and other services. The lunch was organised in the students’ cafeteria which will host the catering and dining hall for athletes.

It was then the turn to make a detailed inspection of some of the sport venues. The delegates visited the venues around the Athlete’s Village and found out that some of them were in a walking distance (venues for beach volleyball, tennis, chess, bridge, karate and rowing) and more than 80 % of them are in a 10 km proximity of the campus.

From there, they travelled to Trnsko Sports Hall, a competition venue for basketball and volleyball. Next on the program was the inspection of FC Hrvatski Dragovoljac, a rugby 7’s training and competition venue. The delegates also went to see the venue for sports climbing in Fothia, as well as the FC Trnje football stadium. The inspection tour ended with a visit of Hall of Sports, where badminton, futsal, table tennis and para table tennis will be held.

At the end of the day, NUSA and EUSA representatives returned to the Faculty of Kinesiology where they had the opportunity to share their impressions and receive answers for pending questions directly from the Heads of all departments of EUG 2016 organization.

The EUSA delegation and 25 representatives from 13 European countries (France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey) found this meeting very informative and useful.
