News - First Croatian costume cooling system manufactured for Hrki

Hrki can breathe easier! The first Croatian cooling system for the inside of a costume has been manufactured for the mascot of the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016 – hamster Hrki. The system is the product of collaboration between the EUG 2016, the Faculty of Textile Technology (TTF), Mikrotakt Company and Kuća Lutaka, who made the costumes for our Hrki.

In order to reduce Hrki’s heat insulation, an innovative cooling system was embedded into the mascot’s costume, created and developed by the professors at the Faculty of Textile Technology, Dubravko Rogale and Snježana Firšt Rogale, in cooperation with Mikrotakt Company, led by director Željko Tijeglić.

People who wear the costume confirmed it was now cooler inside it. But besides their subjective evaluation, objective measurements of the heat insulation reduction have been conducted, as well as the measurements of the increase in the comfort of wearing the costume. All of these tests included the use of the so-called thermal mannequin measurement system, which was installed at the Faculty of Textile Technology.

Using the thermal mannequin the professors at the Faculty measured that the new cooling system drops the temperature inside of the costume by 30%, a decrease which is of great importance for the people wearing it.
