European Universities Games are the largest multi-sport competition in Europe, and a media platform that will mark a milestone for further development of Croatian university sports.

During the european Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2015, between 1,500 and 2,000 volunteers will live a unique experience in this great cultural and multi-spors event. Volunteers will be the backbone of the organization.

News - FC Rijeka as the EUG 2016 Ambassador
In the latest match of football clubs Rijeka and Hajduk, the mascot Hrki symbolically announced cooperation between the Croatian First Football League club Rijeka and the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 (EUG 2016).
The status of FC Rijeka as EUG 2016 Ambassador represents a natural development of a long lasting cooperation which is forming and raising to higher levels, as an important inclusion of this event. Hrki will be present on the upcoming meetings, and besides broadcasting video materials, the players of FC Rijeka will reveal and present partnership wearing official EUG 2016 shirts.
“It is our overwhelming honour and pleasure to participate in the promotion of such an event, as the European Universities Games 2016, together with Rijeka, are one of the host cities. FC Rijeka welcomes and supports this great event and is firmly committed to the sport values such as fair play, tolerance and respect, the virtues that know no race, nation, religion and the differences that should connect us, not to separate us. Mascot Hrki will be always welcomed on our stands, while our football players are proud to contribute to the popularization of EUG 2016“- said the administrative director of the club, Marina Vela.
FC Rijeka, along with the water polo club Primorje Erste Bank; basketball club Cibona; Mihovil Spanja, famous Paralympian; Marijo Moznik, gymnast and others proudly carry the title of EUG 2016 Ambassador.
The Vice President of the European Universities Games, Haris Pavletic, highlighted the indispensable role of FC Rijeka, as one of the biggest sports clubs in Croatia. “The contribution of FC Rijeka confirms that all relevant institutions in Rijeka – from the city authorities to the University and sports clubs – will do everything in their power to promote EUG 2016 in the best possible way. We are extremely grateful for their contribution and excited to host young students from Europe in Rijeka in July” – he added.
The 3rd European Universities Games will be held in Zagreb and Rijeka from July 12th to 25th 2016 and will bring together over 5,000 athletes from 45 European countries and over 250 universities. Rijeka will host championships in Basketball 3×3, Handball, Judo, Swimming & Para swimming, Taekwondo and Water polo.

Zagreb-Rijeka, Croatia: July 12 – 25, 2016
The 3rd edition of the European Universities Games will be held in the Croatian cities Zagreb and Rijeka in July 2016. Sport featured are Badminton, Basketball, Basketball 3×3, Beach Volleyball, Bridge, Chess, Football, Futsal, Golf, Handball, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Rugby 7’s, Sport Climbing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo. Two of the sports – Table Tennis and Swimming – will also include competitions for students with disabilities. Apart of the sports competitions, the Games will be accompanied by the Rector’s Conference, educational side-events, cultural program and other activities.
