News - EUG 2016 Safety Committee: Participants can feel safe

“Croatia is and will remain a safe country,” said Mirko Bilandžić, chairman of the Safety Committee of the European Universities Games Zagreb Rijeka 2016 at a press conference held on July 9 at the operational headquarters of the EUG 2016 at the Faculty of Kinesiology.

Alongside Bilandžić were three of the other members of the Committee, General Mate Laušić, Joško Morić and Tonči Prodan.

Morić said that security preparations for the EUG 2016 had started in October last year, much before the beginning of the Games.

Bilandžić praised the Croatian Ministry of Interior, thanking them for their great and unconditional cooperation.

They also expressed their gratitude to all security companies which had responded to the public tender, and to volunteer security guards, who will also contribute in keeping the athletes safe.

The Committee stressed out that the athletes and all those involved in organizing the competitions can feel safe. They took the opportunity to remind the citizens that only those with an invitation, a ticket or an accreditation pass could attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
