News - Dresses – a new trend on basketball courts?

The University of Warsaw captured everyone’s attention in the last few days with their good games, as well as with the design of their basketball jerseys. Instead of the usual basketball knee-length shorts and sleeveless jerseys, these girls wear tight shorts, just like for cycling, and long jerseys, which resemble dresses. Magda Kruszyńska is a member of the Polish team from Warsaw and says that these jerseys are comfortable.

‘I’ve been playing in this jersey for several years. At the very beginning, when we first got the jerseys, the majority of the girls was sceptical, but they liked it when they’d put it on’, said Magda when asked about the first reactions to the jersey.

It is very unusual to see such design, but not in Poland.

‘Some teams play in such jerseys in our national league. We get asked about them all the time. People even ask if we feel uncomfortable to show up on the court in them.’

At first glance, one wouldn’t say that the Poles could be so aggressive and strong on the court, considering the design of their jersey which resembles a dress, but they claim one shouldn’t underestimate anyone until the match starts.

‘I think that people like us more because of the skirts. Also, some of our opponents underestimate us because of our appearance, and that gives us the advantage’, said Magda.
All we can do is wait and see if the new Polish design will spread among men’s teams as well.
