European Universities Games are the largest multi-sport competition in Europe, and a media platform that will mark a milestone for further development of Croatian university sports.

During the european Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2015, between 1,500 and 2,000 volunteers will live a unique experience in this great cultural and multi-spors event. Volunteers will be the backbone of the organization.

News - CASF delegation visited the President of Croatia
On December 16th 2015, the delegation of Croatian Academic Sports Federation visited the President’s Office in Croatia to present the academic sports achievements and this year’s winners of the annual CASF awards. This meeting included representatives of CASF, European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016, Croatian Olympic Committee, Croatian Paralympic Committee and the Croatian Deaf Sports Association. Along with national sports federations, the winners of this year’s award also came to the reception. They are women’s basketball team from the University of Zagreb – gold medallists at the European Universities Basketball Championship, futsal team from VERN’ University of Applied Sciences – also the current European champion, Andrea Bekic – the silver medallist at the Summer Universiade in judo, futsal player Christian Grbesa and Professor Jadranka Protic, as a lifetime achievement award winner.
“I congratulate all students who won these sports awards. Besides their daily student obligations, they faced all sports challenges and showed how persistence and training can lead you to champion titles and medals. We are proud of you!” – said the President of Croatia, Mrs Kolinda Grabar – Kitarovic.
The president of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, Mr Zrinko Custonja thanked for the warm acknowledgement and pointed out that these sports achievement are the right tool in promoting the national university sport and Croatia as a sports country. He also said he hopes that these successful results will be repeated at the European Universities Games, held in July 2016, in Zagreb and Rijeka.
After the initial greetings, the President of Croatia got a solemnly handed gift from the Croatian Academic Federation – a stuffed mascot of the European Universities Games, hamster Hrki that was made just for this occasion, as well as new edition of UniSport magazine.

Zagreb-Rijeka, Croatia: July 12 – 25, 2016
The 3rd edition of the European Universities Games will be held in the Croatian cities Zagreb and Rijeka in July 2016. Sport featured are Badminton, Basketball, Basketball 3×3, Beach Volleyball, Bridge, Chess, Football, Futsal, Golf, Handball, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Rugby 7’s, Sport Climbing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo. Two of the sports – Table Tennis and Swimming – will also include competitions for students with disabilities. Apart of the sports competitions, the Games will be accompanied by the Rector’s Conference, educational side-events, cultural program and other activities.
