News - Bridge: Medals for the best

The bridge players from the German University of Potsam have won the gold medal at the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016. The German team won first place with a total of 263.35 points.

The silver was won by the Czech team from Charles University (232.45), while Koc University in Turkey (227.24) took the bronze.

The host, the University of Zagreb, had three teams in this competition. Although the home teams were certainly candidates for the medal at these Games, they did not win one. The awards ceremony was held at Pauk Hall at the Stjepan Radić Student Dormitory, where all the bridge games had been played. All participants took part in the ceremony, and the best were awarded medals.

After the first round, held in a round-robbin format, the first three positions were occupied by the eventual medal-winners, and the second round had no effect on the ultimate ranking.

Tihana Brkljačić was the technical delegate for bridge at the EUG. She is satisfied with how the entire competition went.

‘There were no problems at the competition, everything went smoothly, and those who won the medals, of course, are the happiest.’
