The basketball match of the 25th round of ABA League between Cibona and Crvena Zvezda will be remembered for a new participant, mascot Hrki, who has successfully amused the audience. From today, players of the basketball club Cibona officially became Ambassadors of the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 (EUG 2016). The new partnership was symbolically marked with two mascots, Hrki and Vucko, hanging out during the match.
“On my own, and on behalf of the basketball club Cibona, I am very happy that Cibona became the Ambassador of the European Universities Games 2016. Drazen was the one who lit the torch at the Universiade in 1987 and the Drazen Petrovic Sports Hall will host student basketball players from all over Europe at the EUG 2016. I believe that the memory of him lives among young people and that is why Cibona will be happy to participate at EUG 2016 in every possible way “- said Aleksandar Petrovic, Executive Vice President of the basketball club Cibona.
Players of Cibona joined the list of EUG 2016 Ambassadors who represent the largest multi-sport event in Croatian history, along with Marijo Moznik, successful gymnast and Mihovil Spanja, our Paralympian.
Mr Zrinko Custonja, the president of the European Universities Games 2016 referred to this new cooperation and pointed out that EUG 2016 will be the top sport event in Europe in 2016, as Cibona was the top club in 1985. “We are proud and honoured that this big sport club recognized the potential of EUG 2016 and chose to give us the support, particularly because there are numerous links between Cibona and EUG 2016. One of the biggest links is undoubtedly the Croatian basketball Mozart – Drazen Petrovic – the brightest star of the Universiade in 1987, whose spirit will live even stronger on the streets of Zagreb and Rijeka this summer“.
