UniSport Finals started in Poreč

The top athletes from Croatian universities and polytechnics gathered at the annual edition of UniSport Finals in Porec, ready to go for the gold. This is a national sports event which gathers single athletes and teams from Croatian universities and polytechnics. UniSport Finals 2015 plays a key role in the university sport because the winners of this competition will compete at the European Universities Games Zagreb –Rijeka 2016.

UniSport Finals has attracted over 1,000 participants including referees, volunteers, organizers, coaches and athletes. This impressive statistic is a great incentive for the organizational segment as well as a preparation for further realization of the EUG 2016.

The president of CASF, Zrinko Custonja, opened the ceremony and wished all of luck to participants, pointing out that only the best of them can compete at EUG 2016.

The hamster Hrki, official mascot of the European Universities Games 2016, was a special guest at the opening ceremony. As all true athletes, Hrki also scored a record – he took the highest number of “selfies” at the ceremony. Showing his unique personality, this cheerful hamster reminded young athletes on the importance in participating, not only wining.

In the following weekend, young athletes will show their skills and participate in 9 different sports. And whether they are amateurs or professionals, they have the opportunity to show how simple the formula of winning is: “Heart believes, mind achieves” – the official motto of the EUG 2016.
