A solar bench was set up in front of the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb, free for use to the students of the University of Zagreb and the participants of the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016.
The women’s Lions Club Zrinjevac donated two solar benches to the students of the University of Zagreb in order to encourage greater use of green and sustainable technologies. The first solar bench was set up a month ago in the courtyard of the Rectorate.
The Rector of the University of Zagreb Damir Boras gave a speech at the installation ceremony of the second solar bench in front of the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb.
‘I applaud the young people who produced this bench, who created it and who demonstrate that excellence exists in Croatia.’
Rector Boras thanked the women’s Lions Club Zrinjevac, the Faculty of Kinesiology and the organizers of the European Universities Games.
The Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology Damir Knjaz said that the Faculty of Kinesiology is privileged to have been chosen as host for the bench, and thanked the Women’s Lions Club and the Rector of the University of Zagreb.
‘The bench is already in use, the students have recognized this and I think it is the best proof that this bench found the right place,’ said Dean Knjaz.
The representatives of the women’s Lions Club Zrinjevac stressed that they were happy and honored to be part of this event and leave a permanent benefit to the community.
The solar bench is the innovative idea and a project of the young student Ivan Mrvoš from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. The solar bench simultaneously offers a place to rest, it can charge four mobile phones or tablets, has a hotspot for Internet, sensors for air quality, and it can even serve as a street light at night.
The funds for the donation of the bench were raised at the charity concert “La Primavera” held in April of this year at the concert hall “Blagoje Bersa” at the Music Academy in Zagreb.
