News - Women’s Basketball: Zagreb celebrates gold at home court

History was written last night at Dražen Petrović Basketball Hall, as the University of Zagreb women’s basketball team snatched the gold from the Romanians, winning 75:50.

‘This is a phenomenal feeling, I’m really proud of the girls. Our goal was to win the gold and we fulfilled it,’ said Anđa Jelavić, coach of the home team.

Although the Romanians got off to a good start, even taking the lead at one point in the game, once the University of Zagreb reached a 10-point lead, they became unstoppable. The girls couldn’t hide their enthusiasm after the game, and why should they – after all, they won the gold in their city and for their university.

‘A wonderful feeling! We worked really hard, trained and believed. We’re a good team both on and off the court, congratulations to the Romanians, they fought well,’ said Ana Karaga, one of our golden basketball players.

Belgrade vs. Bologna

The University of Bologna and the University of Belgrade clashed for third place, and Belgrade managed to notch the win; it ended 76:59.

Belgrade started the game well, scoring first, maintaining a small lead. However, they relaxed in the end of the first half, allowing to Italians to turn the score and enter the next quarter with a 5-point advantage.

The Belgrade girls equalized later on; Indić scored stunning three-pointers and Milić had some great dunks. Belgrade played some beautiful actions and won the bronze at the European Universities Games 2016.
