News - EUG vice president Haris Pavletić: The volunteers did the lion’s share of the work

Two handball matches took place at the same time in Rijeka on July 15, 2016: the one between the women’s teams of the University of Rijeka and the University of Primorska, and a match between the men’s teams of the University of Rijeka and the University of Ljubljana. We noticed the Mayor of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel and the vice president of EUSA and the European Universities Games 2016 Haris Pavletić were among the spectators.

The vice president of the EUG 2016 Haris Pavletić stated he was very pleased with the organizing effort so far. He said there were a few challenges, but that was expected in an event of such magnitude. He was extremely grateful to all their volunteers for their effort, hard work and a good atmosphere they had created. They did the lion’s share of the work, said Pavletić, asking the volunteers to find the strength to carry and ensure the Games end in the best possible way.

Mayor Vojko Obersnel stated the Games were going according to plan and that the city was filled with students. He decided to see the handball match first, then stop by the Kantrida swimming pools. He hoped to catch at least a part of the swimming competition next week. He couldn’t tell whether Rijeka would attract more students after the Games end, but stated that many young people from all over Europe have now seen Rijeka and its Campus and expressed his hope that they would return to the city as tourists.
