News - Romanian, Russian, Georgian and Portuguese rugby teams open the competitions with a win

On the first day of the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 the Romanian men’s rugby team beat the University of Zagreb in the first game of the competition’s group phase.

The Ecological University of Bucharest rugby team beat the University of Zagreb 47:10 this morning at NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac Stadium. The Bucharest team opened the scoring in the forty-fourth second of the game. Bucharest defended very well, and it was hard for the Croatians to score.

In the next round, the Ecological University of Bucharest will face the Siberian Federal University, while the University of Zagreb will face the Utrecht team.

In the second game of the group phase, the team from Siberian Federal University beat the team from the Netherlands.
The rugby squad from Russia won against the Utrecht University 33:0 and the score was opened in the seventh minute of the game. The Russian offense was pressing hard against the opposing team and they made it difficult for the players from the Netherlands to form a working defense.
The Georgian National University SEU rugby team won the third game of the group phase against the Lithuanian rugby team.

‘It was the first game, and we did pretty good job. We are looking forward to the next game’, said Lekso Gugava, the president of University Sports Federation of Georgia, after the Georgian team won against the Šiaulian University 40:7 this morning at NK Hrvatski dragovoljac Stadium. The score was opened in the 2nd minute by the Georgians. The team of the Šiauliai University played against the highest EUSA ranked team in the competition.

In the next round, the Georgian National University SEU will face the University of Valencia and the Šiauliai University will face the team from Portugal.

In their opening match of the EUG 2016 tournament, the Portuguese team beat the University of Valencia 17:14.

The Nova University of Lisbon rugby team won against the Spanish squad by a small margin as both teams were good in all aspects of the game.
