Passing by: Only words of praise for the accommodation and food!

The European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016 are in full swing, and the student dormitory Stjepan Radić is brimming with athletes and volunteers.

Numerous flags of the contestants are hanging from pavilion windows. And the athletes, despite the hot weather, keep on training in order to achieve good results at the upcoming competitions.

During our walk through what is currently an international athletes’ village, we asked several athletes what they thought about Zagreb.

‘We arrived yesterday and are training very hard for the matches. The campus is really big, and the dormitories are tidy. The food is good. We are planning on going to Roko on Saturday because it is our day off, and after the competition we plan on visiting the city centre,’ said the girls from the German women’s football team.

‘We met a lot of new people. Not just Croatians, but also several Romanians and French students. Soon we all became friends,’ said the Hungarian men’s basketball team.

‘We are currently relaxing after the training at Jarun Lake. The lake is really special; it is unlike any we have had the chance to row on in the past. Everything is close, but the high temperatures are restrictive. We are not used to such heat,’ said the Dutch rowing team.

‘We would like to commend the organization of the Games. We have had more positive experiences here than at the previous Games we participated in. Oh, yes, and the food is better,’ said the Portuguese basketball players.
