News - French and Russian climbers most successful in bouldering qualifications

Women’s qualifications in bouldering were especially successful for French and Russian universities.

The competitions in sports climbing at the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016 began at the Zagreb Fair. We found out the names of 16 female climbers who managed to pass the bouldering qualification rounds, and among them, the French and Russian are the most numerous.

Fanny Gibert, Svana Bjarnason, Lauranne Dufour and Marion Thomas from the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon all passed, as well as another French competitor, Alice Garnier from the University of Paris-Sud.

The Russians are pleased too, with Jevgenija Lapšina and Jelena Markuševa from the Ural Federal University both passing. The two Annes were successful as well, Anna Ciganova and Anna Biček, both from the Siberian Federal University.

Two other Croatian representatives did well the qualification rounds as well: Barbara Gilić from the University of Split, and Ivana Staraj from the University of Rijeka.

‘We came to Zagreb yesterday afternoon, and it’s been great, everything is perfectly organized. I’m the only girl on the team, five male climbers from Split are with me, and I’m used to that many men on the team because I’ve been with these guys for a long time. I’ve been climbing for eight years already, and there were no changes in the team,’ said the 21-year-old Gilić.
