News - End of first chess round

The chess competition at the European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 has begun. The first round took place at 11.00 hours at Pauk Hall. Men and women played separately and the clocks were set to 25 minutes.

Last year’s national champions from Zagreb competed as well. Ana Iveković, Mathematics student at the University of Zagreb, beat Erenkul Seyma.

‘I think the Russians are the favorites,’ Ana said.

Grandmaster Saša Martinković, representing Croatia, beat Filip Cvitković, another Croatian representative.

One of the competitors from Osijek lost, but said she had a great time.

Next round will be held at 15.30 at Pauk Hall.
